The Effect of Torso Rotation Exercise for Lumbar Extension Muscle Strength on Chronic Lumbago Patients

Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study is to analyze and to compare the difference between lumbar extension exercise group and torso rotation and lumbar extension exercise group in the area of lumbar extension strength through lumbar extensors and torso rotators strengthening exercise.

Methods : 110 subjects (MLE exercise group: 55, MLE & MTR exercise group: 55) were selected among chronic lumbago patients. Lumbar Extension Machine and Torso Rotation Machine were used to measure examines` Lumbar extensor muscle strength. Before the research, we pre-tested the muscular strength of each group. Both 4 weeks and 8 weeks later, we retested it and compared the change.

Results : First, After 4 weeks` and 8 weeks` MLE exercise, there was significant lumbar extensor muscular strength (P<0.05). Second, After 4 weeks` and 8 weeks` MLE& MTR exercise, there was significant lumbar extensor muscular strength (P<0.05). Third, After 4 weeks` and 8 weeks` MLE & MTR exercise, there was significant difference of lumbar extensor muscular strength between MLE exercise group and MLE & MTR exercise group(P<0.05) collectively.
Conclusion : MLE & MTR group showed no significant difference(P<0.05). MLE & MTR than MLE method an effective way to exercise. Thus, more efficiently by improving muscle strength is thoughth to be MLE & MTR exercise method.
